"I love to collect things like lichens, dried mushrooms, and interesting rocks and shells to incorporate into floral compositions because I think it makes them look really beautiful and unusual," says Jaakkola. The east façade of the house, now mostly hidden, originally had windows, but due to the proximity of 200 Walton Street, these have been bricked up, suggesting a later construction date on its easterly neighbour. Due to topography, this house boasts a walk-out basement. The basement is constructed of limestone, above which is a wide east-facing porch. As with many of these houses, they were originally heated by stoves from a central chimney, and in this case, the chimney still exists. The house overlooks a pond system which runs behind the houses on Bedford Street. There is a walkout from the stone basement foundation wall.

What an amazing location with the view of the river and marina. We visited Tybee and I kept thinking about the wonderful cottages that you had designed so beautifully.

This deck is covered with an awning in the summer, forming a wonderful summer room. Inside Jaakkola's studio, natural light was enhanced by the barn's original sky-high ceilings. Taking it up a notch, she splashed all surfaces, high and low, in white. "I always say you can make anything look 10 times better with a can of white paint," says Jaakkola. A mix of antiques sourced from near and far furnishes the former barn, including iron garden chairs and a vintage wooden desk from France as well as a trio of vintage woven cloches from Vietnam.

It's only a short walk to Isle of Hope Marina, the Community Pool, the playground and Isle of Hope Elementary (K-8). This, like the cottage at 25 Brown Street , exhibits the character of cottages of this period in history, which aspired to a classical style temple. This is further developed with a wrap-around porch with classical details in the columns with capitals. A metal roof adds much to the charm of this ground level porch.
